The oldest and only Swedish member of the expedition.
Vera was born and raised in Härnösand, a small town on the east coast of Sweden. From when she was just a few days old, her father used to pull her around in the Swedish forests in a pulka. This is the reason for her fascination with pulkas, and the motive for her strong wish of pulling one, heavily loaded, for more than 500km! Vera grew up on homemade bread, in a nature-loving family who spent all of their vacations running around naked somewhere in the wilderness.
In her childhood, Vera spent a lot of time on the handball court, and grew into a fearful wing with a hard, delicate shot, which impressed even the Swedish national team coach! Vera did some eminent acts together with the national team, before the year 2000, when she made one of her most important decisions ever: to move to Norway and the magic islands of Lofoten. Here, she took a one year mountain course at Lofoten Folkehögskole, where she also met Kristin for the first time. A strong and growing friendship was a result of the adventurous and exciting year in the north.
Vera is the most experienced member, and her route finding ability will be trusted to cross the numerous glaciers that will be encountered on our expedition. In the summers Vera works as a glacier instructor in Jotunheimen, and she has done many long and short trips in Norway, Sweden, New Zealand and Canada. Vera went to Canada last year to continue her biology studies which she started in Umeå. She used her time very well over there, and filled the year with memorable trips kayaking, trekking, hiking, climbing and, of course, skiing in deep powder in spectacular environments.
It is not only her experience that makes Vera a valuable team member. She is a very warm person, with a lot of humor, energy, and care for those around her. Vera is an open person, easy to talk to, and she has a roaring laughter which clings to the mountainsides.
Vera has a pair of really good looking upper arms, which unfortunately are freezing quite often up here in the rough arctic climate. Her butt is going to suffer the same cold experience when she has to give back the stolen, thick “long-johns” to she knows who!
